3 misconceptions about webcamming
There are a lot of myths around camming in general, and here are the realities about it.
One of my close friends is discouraged from making a career out of it, and I decided to write about webcamming. I know this might bring value to some of you, so I made my decision to write some misconceptions about camming in general and how we can change the camming industry.
Previously, I have a negative attitude and perception surrounding such a career, but until it came to a realisation that most of which are either made-up or far from factual. And I would like to share some of my opinions brought up from one of the models that I’ve known.
Myth 1: You have to be nude in order to make money.
This is a common misconception and in reality not every client is interested in your sexuality. Sometimes people are just bored (especially when there is this lockdown from covid-19) and some clients just want someone to talk to. Being a non-nude model can still perform fully clothed and clients will still willingly to pay you a lot of money.
Myth 2: It’s all about sex.
Selling sex will put you into a fierce competition. This is because there will always be someone who’s ‘bigger’ and ‘better’. So, this is why there’s a complete opposite of what almost every webcam model does. Sex shows are not the primary spending motivator on the site. This is always an illusion about camming.
Not all customers get the lowest priced dildo shows, and most often, customers come for emotional stimulation. People value connection and all they want is to have someone to talk to as high as they value sex.
Myth 3: More people will want me if I cost less.
Not all customers think that way, and most often people want whatever they want at whatever price it costs. This also implies even if you are not hot enough or having the best body shape. For example, delivering an awesome experience or entertainment may cost more than a boring sex show. It all comes to how you be creative and how you decide to attract the best.
How to do it right for the camming industry?
Reversing our perspective may be the key to make changes to the industry. Try saying hello, being kind to everyone and ask how people are feeling. You do not have to feel guilty if you have a quality presentation or being completely dressed in an open chat. Engaging with people are always the key to unlock new opportunities as if they are already or soon will be spending money on you.
So, here’s a round up of my thoughts about camming so far. And to a certain point, camming is more than sex. I think it’s also about connecting and making enjoyable relationships. I would also like to end this with a quote from Hanny Quinn: “There’s a story behind every person. There’s a reason why they’re the way they are. They aren’t just like that because they want to be. Something in the past created them, and sometimes it’s impossible to fix.”
